Bornean orang utan baby, Ah Meng Junior
Two-month-old Bornean orang utan baby, Ah Meng Junior, hangs on to her mother, Anita at the Singapore Zoo on 20 February 2009. Named in memory of Singapore Zoo's iconic Sumatran orang utan, the late Ah Meng, Ah Meng Junior is the 35th orang utan birth at the zoo. The population of the Bornean orang utan is estimated to stand at about 50,000 while that of the Sumatran orang utan is at approximately 7,500 in the wild. Both species live in rainforests and are endangered due to habitat destruction, forest fires and poaching for the illegal pet trade
